Chinese Tea Eggs



I always wanted to try the tea eggs ever since I had it at Lily's house last year. It definitely took me awhile but better late than never. Since I am a sucker for easy or recipe that uses less ingredients , I decided to try making it with a recipe I found online that uses tea bag and five spice powder. Well, I guess if you want a good fragrant tea eggs, don't look for short-cut and use Lily's recipe instead. These tea eggs of mine have no fragrant at all and way too salty! Anyway, I took this as an experience and a practice run.


I really like the marbling effect on my eggs. "Swee bor?" (Pretty or not?) Sorry for the yellow lighting since I have to take this at night.

Dear Little Corner of Mine,

Your eggs are "Swee". As easy as this may look it is really not. Peeling the shells off the egg is quite challenging. I like the close up shot and the white platter really make the eyes focus on your art. Thumbs up...

So pretty your tea eggs. I have been thinking of trying to make tea eggs also but never get around to do it because my other half wouldn't know how to appreciate it. So if I make already, who is going to eat it except me.

Your tea eggs are so pretty! I don't make them as I'm the only one who eats it - hubby doesn't eat them either!

Thanks wokandspoon. I only made six eggs actually and I only ate the egg whites!

Perhaps you can make it if you have Asian friends coming over?

What did you do with the egg yolks?? And no, no South-east Asian friends here - only Japanese, and I'm not sure they'll be too big on the eggs either :-(

I just threw the yolks away. :P Sorry that there's no South-East Asian friend at your place, you really have to cook to satisfy all your cravings then (hard work)!

Dear Little Corner of Mine,

Not easy to make hard boiled eggs, let alone tea leaf eggs. I tried yesterday and it did not look as good as yours.

I was lazy, I used a fork to crack the eggs ever so lightly on the egg shell, while it was still cooking.

The shell was a little hard to peel as well. I have not given up. I cannot believe that I can make Siew Pao so well but cannot peel a hard boiled egg without peeling the white egg as well. :)

The trick to easy peel egg shell is to add some salt into the boiling water when boiling your eggs. ;)
