Chicken with Chili Paste with Holy Basil Leaves



I was recommended by aunty Lily with this Chili Paste with Holy Basil Leaves. Since I could not find it at my area, she got me a bottle to try. This paste is not spicy at all so if you wanted more kick just add some chili or sambal or chili paste when stir-frying. I should have added a little fish sauce as well (I just followed the direction from the bottle and found it a little bland). I cooked it with chicken breast, celery, carrot and onion.

oh, so how was the taste? i was thinking, u might wanna explore to fry rice with this sauce? it will turn out to be resemble to Thai chicken basil fried rice!! who knows..

you should have just fried the chicken with the chilli paste, cos the celery might be too overpowering than the holy basil.

holly me! this is such an exicitng dish . . . . must be hot, spicy and full of asian flavour. I wonder if holy basil leaves any good in bread?

I often see holy basil leaves in Asia store. Is it almost similar taste like kemangi/hairy basil?

Gigi, thanks for your great suggestion. I will try that for my fried rice next time. Like Lily said that celery might be too overpowering than the basil, so I couldn't really taste the sauce.

Yeah noobcook, I first heard it from Lily too. :)

Lily, oh I didn't know, next time I will try it without celery and fried rice with it like suggested by Gigi. :)

BBOven, don't know leh. But this sauce is not spicy at all, it's actually pretty mild basil taste.

Jin Hooi, it's worth a try for variation in everyday cooking. I love to experiment with new paste/sauce for something new on the table. ;)

Retno, sorry can't help you there, because to me all basil is basil, I'm that bad, don't know how to differentiate. :P

This is certainly new to me. Haven't tried chilli paste with holy basil. Got to keep my eyes open for a bottle of this to try.

I never try this holy basil paste b4...your review is not really high on this paste,huh?.How about get some thai basil and cook wt sambal?.lol!

Sig, apparently it's a type of basil, named holy basil. I don't know how to differentiate too. :P

LEE Brand? I tried the Tom Yum Pasta of the same brand before. It it not bad.

Yes Tigerfish. I'm using the Lee brand Tom Yam paste too. I seem to prefer this brand than the previous brand I tried. :)

I live with a Thai chef, and we prefer the Por Kwan brand chili paste with holy basil leaves. We paid $2.79 in Thai Town (Los Angeles) but it can be found online for $1.98. It's free of MSG and is made of all natural ingredients.
Holy Basil is easy to grow from seed in warm weather. In Asia it is often found growing around temples...thus the name.
