Bakuteh

Some like the Singaporean version of white pepper bakuteh (pork ribs soup), some like the Malaysian version of dark herbal taste bakuteh. As for me, I prefer the Malaysian version and thus I decided to give Tean's Gourmet Bakuteh a try. I bought few packets from mytasteofasia.com as I hardly shop at Denver anymore. Oh yeah, MyTOA is going to close down its' business for the unknowing time being and the last day to take your order is Nov. 26th. So, go grab whatever you want before it's too late (if you haven't done so already!).

This is how the packet looks like. Overall, I still prefer Yew Chian Haw and A1 bak kut teh premix. If you are buying this, don't follow the salt amount indicated in the packet because it will turn out too salty.

BKT - Ohhh....I like! Msian BKT is very different from Spore ones. My DH prefers the Spore version (peppery soup type). Goes so well "bui chye"

You're welcome Pearl.

Sock Peng, what type of A1 bakuteh did you buy? The one with the premix only or the one also included the dried Chinese herbs (more expensive and larger packet)? Hmmm...actually when I make the bakuteh, I never follow the meat instruction (too lazy to weight), I just put whatever we can consume, and then follow the garlic amount and water amount. As for the seasoning, I will add what I feel is right and then do a taste test and adjust accordingly.

I heard of the stores at Alameda going to move for 2 years now. Heard that WalMart wants to buy that piece of land.

Thanks Asianmommy. I like bakuteh flavored eggs. :)

Yes JP, actually the Singapore peppery version is not bad too if we buy the right brand.

Thanks BBoven.

Dwiana, actually not so healthy if people have high cholesterol. Unless you cook it with lean pork meat. ;)

I would love to have a bowl of BKT now especially in this crazy cold weather. For me claypot brand and
A1 BKT is the best!

You like A1 brand too huh, Gert. I can see a lot of people like this brand of bakuteh.

Noobcook, I like adding boiled eggs in my soy sauce chicken/pork too.

Sorry Rita. I don't have the bakuteh recipe from scratch and I don't know how to make it too.
