Broccolini
You can read all about Broccolini at Tigerfish's blog here. I first saw this veggie at her blog and thought this veggie looked divine. While I was doing my grocery shopping recently, I spotted this broccolini was on-sales as Manager's Pick of the week. So, I quickly grabbed this opportunity to try out this new breed of veggie.
Coincidentally, I cooked this just like how Tigerfish cooked her. Guess great mind thinks alike huh? LOL! Anyway, after trying this broccolini, I still prefer my HK kailan. Not sure whether I undercooked it or the veggie a bit old because it was quite tough on the stem (fibrous?). I paid $1.50 for what you see above but normally I think it is priced around $3.50. At that price, I can buy a big bag of kailan already.

I love kailan, but have never tried brocollini. They are always expensive and never gone on sales here. :p

I agree that they are abit on the expensive side. I thought they should be more tender.. hmmm..
Fibrous ah? Those I tried before were tender leh. Not very sek.Maybe because it's a bad crop or what, that's why on sale! :O

Broccolini....interesting. I think I have seen something similiar at our wet market here. How's the taste?

hmmm...i love kai lan...and fried shallots...too bad my gas stove is so hard to control, i always burnt mine T_T...i think i should go for the shortcut and buy the ones in a plastic bottle :)

Daphne, I thought they aould be tender too. Maybe I got the old crop. :P
Tigerfish, that's why I said in my post, I might get the old crop because the stem is kinda fibrous. I didn't blanch them, just stir-fry them.
JP, the flower tasted like broccoli and the stem supposed to taste like kailan stem, I think.

Yup, I used the one in a plastic bottle. Hehe...so much easier. Just remember once you open, keep it in the freezer. Then, it won't have the stinky oil gone bad smell done the road. ;)
I saw brocolini in NY b4 but never try it yet!! look crispy and crunchy..I like the italian broccoli too...forget the name now...eat too much,,,now sudah blur blur!!lol!!
But I never stir fry them. I just blanch them, then drizzle some oyster sauce and sprinkle fried shallots on top. More pin tua right?
My Little Tiger who is a picky eater, only eats brocollini. They are pricey but Little Tiger needs her fiber... I usually get mine at Trader Joes and they are not too fibrous. I cook mine with garlic and Costco's chicken stock paste. Thanks for sharing. A good reminder for me to buy some this week. :)
