Nasi Lemak II

Nasi lemak again but this time I wanted to try the Chan Hong sambal ikan bilis that I bought earlier. I read so much great review on this that I just got to buy one bottle and try. And the reviews never failed, this is indeed good and way too convenient. I just pour it in the microwave safe bowl and microwaved for a minute and served with my ever easy nasi lemak side dishes. I sprayed my ikan bilis with canola oil spray and microwaved for 2 minutes, learned that from Lily. I toasted my peanuts in my toasted oven for 8 minutes, cut out my English cucumber (long seedless cucumber) and boiled eggs to serve. Easy!

This is the picture of the bottle. This product is one of the best sellers at mytasteofasia.com so grab some to try. This is not a sponsor post okay, I just want to introduce or recommend a product that I have tested and loved it to my readers. I think this is best for someone who doesn't know how to cook sambal ikan bilis or doesn't have time to cook. Or someone like me who is just curious and wanted to try something new or maybe lazy too lah. :P Oh BTW, new products are in stock now. Even has belachan powder!

This sambal tasted like the Malay nasi lemak bungkus with banana leaf sambal at mamak stalls. Medium spicy.

  3. Hi there,

I just might grab a jar soon. I LOVE nasi lemak (so does my family), and making my own sambal gets quite tedious especially having to split and clean out every single fish! So thanks for the recommendation, and your plate of nasi lemak looks wonderful.

  4. Yuuuummy!!! Got a question, does the ikan bilis comes out crispy when you microwave it?? I use to do that ... without the spray of oil ... I didn't like it.

Also, the peanut, did you put it raw peanut??

    My hubby loves this dish.

  5. Yes Mandy, at least get two or more if you get a chance, most often it is sold out.

    You're welcome cocoa! :)

Thanks Louisa. Do you mean clean the ikan bilis? Next time just buy the cleaned one like me. ;) I used to split and clean my ikan bilis, that's some tedious job!

Thanks Tricia! Of course cripy lah if not how to eat? Next time remember to spray with oil or add in some oil before you microwave it. How long to microwave depends on how much ikan bilis you use also. Yes, I used raw peanuts, I also spray a little oil on my peanuts but you can omit this step.

  11. You know, I haven't seen cleaned ikan bilis. I should keep both eyes open next time when I go to the asian grocer. My mom used to make me sit and clean the ikan bilis for her. I never knew any other way..lol.

  12. Hi beachlover,
I simply love the seedless cucumber! Whenever it's on sales, I always buy it to make nasi lemak or assam laksa. You have the ChanHong assam laksa paste or not? My own sambal ikan bilis is really spicy, so this one is just okay for me. :P

Thanks singairishgirl! Oh yeah, will be so much better with banana leaves right? Hmmm...I actually have some frozen one...LOL!

Thanks BBOven! Really a quick and easy meal. :)

    Hi Daphne,
It's time to cook yourself some nasi lemak, very easy only mah! ;)

    Hi Ray,
Got ikan bilis in there meh? LOL! Oh forgot to mention to my readers only got ground ikan bilis in there, so can do it like Ray, or like me have the fried ikan bilis on the side so that it's still crispy. Thanks for dropping by Ray! :)

  17. Louisa,
I'm not sure whether you can find the cleaned ikan bilis in U.S. since I got my supply from M'sia. Oh yeah, I remember those days too... so really glad that now I don't have to do it anymore.

    Thanks sweet Jasmine!

    Tigerfish,
Like you said now it's only 5 hours away, can always fly back to have some. Since so near, you going back for CNY?

Thanks Dhanggit! It's really yummy too! :)

Now you know Nilmandra. Easy, no smell in the kitchen and no extra oil to deal with. ;)

  19. GREAT tip on microwaved ikan bilis! I tried it last night, rinse the ikan bilis, and drop little bit of vegis oil (don't have spray kind at home), and it turned out very crispy. Looked so much healthier and not gressy at all. Would never thought of that, thanks for sharing!

  20. Thanks Puspha. Yes, eat til your heart content when you go back!

  24. Glad to know about this simplified method of cooking nasi lemak. Normally I deep fry the ikan bilis & make my own sambal. Next time should go shopping for the ready made one instead. Should be easier to find in Malaysia.

  25. Dwiana, I know it's really good even though it's so simple.

    Hi Celine,
Yeah, it should be easy to find in M'sia, I bet it's cheaper too.
