This is my experiment with chocolate bread made in a bread machine. It is a soft sandwich bread but lack of chocolate flavor. I should have added some chocolate chips perhaps? Or use Specially Dark cocoa powder? The color looks like whole wheat bread to me instead of chocolate bread. :-P But it does has a hint of chocolate smell. Just a hint!
I will probably play with this recipe some more. Not sure whether we can buy natural chocolate essence here? Oh well, needs to figure it up more as how to bring up the chocolate flavor without compromising the texture of this bread. If you know of any idea, let me know. It has to be made in the bread machine though!
Ingredients:
1 1/8 cup water
2 Tbsp. olive oil
2 Tbsp. cane sugar
3 cups unbleached all-purpose flour
1 1/2 Tbsp. cocoa powder
1 1/2 tsp. sea salt
3 tsp. active dry yeast
Method:
Add everything according to your bread maker. Mine is as listed above. Use Basic, Light, 1.5lb and let it run. Once it done. Take it out with an oven mitt and turn it over and rest on a wire rack. The bread will drop out by itself. Let it cool before slicing and storing. Keep in air-tight container or freeze for later.
I have never tried making bread with cocoa powder. Something new to consider :-).
ReplyDeleteUp the cocoa powder, I think you can go as far as half a cup, maybe even more. Don't forget to extract the same amount from the flour. Also, soms extra sugar will help.
ReplyDeleteYup, something new right Ling. But this recipe needs more experiment.
ReplyDeleteAnon, thanks for your guidance, will try it next time. :)
Suddenly this reminded me of ice-cream sandwiched with bread, sold by the ice-cream uncle on "wheels". The bread looked exactly like that! :p
ReplyDeleteHaha...Tigerfish.
