Lemon Honey Drink (蜂蜜檸檬水)

I saw in a Chinese article that this lemon honey drink can aid in weight loss, detox and beauty (美容排毒減肥).  The method is really easy so I would share it here.  All I know is honey and lemon are good for us so this drink should be safe to drink.  I drink one glass a day (or skip a day or two) if I have the supply in my refrigerator.  Honey is antiseptic, antioxidant, has cleansing properties for our body and health, fights infection, aids tissue healing, reduce inflammation and scarring, great beauty and skin care product for ladies and more.  The benefits of eating or drinking lemon juice are great as well such as control high blood pressure, aid in weight loss, good for stomach, detox and more.

This drink is sourish and sweet at the same time and quite refreshing!

Caution:  Not all people are suitable for honey drink.  My hubby gets upset stomach whenever he had some honey.  Don't drink it first thing in the morning without breakfast.  Better drink it after lunch.

1st day

Use a clean glass jar or container, add in thinly sliced lemon (I used 3 lemons here).  Place one layer and cover it with honey, add another layer and cover it with honey.  You should totally cover the lemon with honey.  I didn't quite cover mine.  Seal it and put it in the refrigerator for 4-5 days before consuming.

4th days

I couldn't wait until the 5th day.  I tried it on the 4th day.  It's more watery, I guess the lemon juice seep out and mix with the honey and soften the lemon.  This method can preserve the lemon for a long time in the refrigerator.

To drink:
Scoop some of the lemon slices in a cup, add some of the honey juice, add water, stir and enjoy.  I added additional honey into the mix because I liked it sweeter.

  1. I use to have honey and lemon first thing in the morning. At first it worked perfect for maintaining my body but later one, sort of drained out my energy and became very thin.

Therefore, I put a stop to this drink and now its like a once a while esp when the hot weather is killing.

  3. Maybe there is natural enzyme/bacteria in the honey that your husband is allergic too. Hmmm....
No wonder I usually read in some labels esp in raw honey that some pple may be allergic to it?

  6. I didn't know that honey could cause upset tummies. I usually drink a honey-lemon drink when I'm sick or have a sore throat.

  10. Nava, I don't think you should drink this first thing in the morning, I don't think it's good for empty stomach. You should drink a cup of water first thing in morning though.

    Thanks belinda.

Tigerfish, not sure. He just cannot have raw honey.

Sonia, that's good too. Unless you have lots of lemon and want to preserve it.

    Thanks Juliana.

WokandSpoon, I heard of that home remedy too. I think my hubby stomach is not good, not sure.

    You're welcome Loveforfood.

    Retno, I don't see why not. :)

  11. Daphne, my hubby bought a big bottle of 100% pure unfiltered honey, perhaps that's his problem, he probably can't take the pure raw honey. Now I think about it, he didn't have problem when I bought the filtered honey. But the unfiltered honey is better. Oh well.

  12. This recipe looks like how "fruit enzymes" are made. Except that they let the mixture ferment/ sit a longer period before consuming in making fruit enzymes.

I have a colleague who makes and consumes fruit enzymes. She makes them with fruit, honey and water and allows the mixture to sit for 6 months before consuming. However, if you google, most sites show recipes that makes them with brown sugar.

I love honey with or without lemon in it. :P Thanks for posting your recipes!

  13. This version is quite close to one I saw from the HK cooking show. They preserve the lemon for years. Though your version is faster, it's easier for me to try it out too. ;)

  18. Hi Junie, I would not recommend plastic. Just go buy a glass jar or container for this.

  19. Thanks for the recipe! May I ask what type of honey u use? just a cheap one from supermarket?

  20. Hi Go Farmer, you need to get the raw, unfiltered honey, definitely not the cheapest one as there are a lot of fake honey out there.
