Special Fried Eggs

Why is this fried eggs so special? Because I added black sesame seeds in it! Sesame seed has antioxidant and anti-cancer properties and rich in iron, magnesium, copper, calcium, manganese and contains vitamin B1 and E. It is pretty hard to incorporate sesame seeds into our diet unless we use sesame oil frequently or eat cookies or bread made with sesame seeds. So, one day when preparing my beaten eggs for stir-fried, I saw my bottle of black sesame seeds in the cabinet and thought why not. I could hardly taste the sesame seeds at all, so my girls ate it with no problem. Well, unless of course you have an allergy reaction towards sesame seeds, this will be another way to consume sesame seeds.

Evy had some sort of reaction like swelling of eyelid, face and lips and hives on her body. We took her to her pediatrician and he said it was an allergic reaction. Now I am wondering whether it is the sesame seeds. Since she started having diarrhea after consuming some toasted sesame seeds noodle, but what strange was she had sesame seeds cookies, sesame chicken, sesame seeds oil cooking before and never encountered any allergic reaction.
After two days of observation, I finally discovered the cause, and it was the new non-stick pan that I bought. Now, it's all fell into pieces as she started having diarrhea when I started using the new pan. After that, she started having hives and swollen lip, etc. I gave her the allergy medicine and it was all gone, she was having the sesame chicken and peanut butter & jam bread with no problem. And then, after she had some fried eggs cooked with the new pan, her condition resurfaced. So, that was how I found out it was the new non-stick pan, otherwise, I would not have thought of this. As this is the only new thing that I bought recently and used. So now, back to my good old wok. At the mean time, also wondering what's in the new non-stick coating that made her have such an allergic reaction.

Ingredients:

  • 4 large eggs
  • A handful of fresh cilantro, thinly sliced
  • 2 tsp. black sesame seeds
  • A little milk (I used 2%)
  • 1 tbsp. dried onion flakes
  • White pepper to taste
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/2 tsp. Chicken granules (optional)

Method:

1. In a bowl, cracked in the eggs, beaten well. Add a little milk and the rest of the ingredients. Beat well.

2. In a hot non-stick wok pan, add in some cooking oil of your choice. When hot, pour in the beaten eggs batter. Cooked, flipped on both sides until cooked. Serve hot.

It's scare isn't to think that a non-stick pan can give this kind of reactions. What type of non-stick pan is this? Can you imagine we thought that using non-stick pan is much better than the good old wok. I guess it is not.

Interesting observation abt the nonstick pan. Have heard that some people are concerned abt the gases released from the teflon when heated, esp. if there are pet birds ard. Don't know the whole story though. There is a line of nonstick cookware called "Earthchef" that supposedly does not release these fumes/gases. Did buy one before and returned it as I found it did not heat up as expected and was quite sticky.

That non-stick pan look scary, do you mind share the brand..Luckily you found out the root cause..

Yes, I would have not thought of that in the first place. The non-stick pan I got is TVS, made in Italy, a new non-stick coating different from Teflon. I remember I bought that because it's different from Teflon because I heard negative thing about Teflon. Who would have known this new coating can cause allergy for my girl. I will try to refund it today and let them know this pan can cause allergic reaction so that the manufacturer can be aware of this.

ching ,why don't you try hard anodize pan or wok? I love to use hard anodize material ,it's non-stick and safe to use..Calphalon or Circulon or Cuisinart are great and affortable products...They are from the same parent company..in fact I have a 14 inch wok and different type of size hard anodize pan..I throw away all telfon pan after purchase hard anodize pans... don't get the cheap brand like Fabraware or T-fal..if you want top of the line,go for All-Clad.I

Yes Denesa, black sesame seed is good for us, eat more! :)

Thanks Beachlover. So I have to look for anodize non-stick. After this incident, I'm thinking to avoid all non-stick pan/wok. I think I will stick to carbon wok and stainless steel pans.

ooo. Lucky u found out the cause..but certainly it is odd that the non stick coating caused the reaction which made me ponder if it is really non stick or is hte chemical they used too strong?

nevertheless, sesame seeds is a great addition and idea to eggs!!!!

Welcome back Puspha! Will visit! :)

Daphne, no idea but I have returned the pan and told the cashier to make a report to the manufacturer. They acted on it right away too.

Good thing that you found the cause of it! My husband has been telling me not to use the non stick pan because it's 'no good' for health. Now I think I'll listen to his advice. My girl has an allergic on the skin of all peaches. Hopefully Evy's allergic will go away as she grows older.

Elena,
Evy is back to normal now as we found the cause and returned the non-stick pan. Not sure whether she will have the side-effect in the long run. All of us consumed it as well, how scary.

Oh gosh, that is indeed scary. And I use non-stick a lot too, as is easier to clean. Thanks for the warning. And thanks to Evy for making us aware but poor babe.
